Lakme Fashion Week is one of the most glamorous events of the year. It’s a dream of every fashion lover. LFW has been made with a vision to “Redefine the future of fashion and Integrate India into the global fashion world”. LFW for the first time was held at the lawns of the Grand Hyatt from 2nd March to 6th March 2012. It is organized twice every year.
Lakme has always evolved to offer something unique to the ever changing Indian woman. Honest to its legacy, Lakme launched its Fast and Fabulous collection of 30 fashion forward nail enamels that dries up in 40 seconds.
The only words that sum up the entire event were stunning splendid, glamorous and absolute beauty. Pristine ivory pillars served as a beautiful background for gorgeous models that walked down the ramp in mesmerizing selection of graceful fabrics, colors and silhouettes. Five carved white cones ran along the ramp while lot many were hung from the branches of the trees circling the lawn.
The show started with Silver Strings – a peppy trio of pretty ladies, who charmed the crowd with their skills on the violins. As the lights came on, the five cones went up to reveal Junoesque models in sheer creations, while the tuneful music of the live orchestra above the stage brought haunting melodies on the show.
Starting with ivory, Rohit went to darker shades of beige and brown and moved on to muted tinges like maroon, cobalt, wine, purple, red and showered down the long opulent coats, capes, kalidaar kurtas, shrugs and gowns with crystal, zari and resham and embroidery. The themes ranged from swirling birds to peacocks and geometric designs. Men’s wear carried the motif of the show with rich jackets, sherwanis and bundhgala coats.
Rohit Bal’s collection called “Kaarigari” had the traditional cuts and intricate designs that represented the modern Indian woman who is honest to her ethics yet lives an international lifestyle and looks glamorous each day.
As the Orchestra was playing the theme from the “Black Swan”, the super models took their bow in entire circle multi tiered floor kissing cotton kurtas – a Rohit Bal’s signature style – in shades of ivory, beige, grey and black.
Now it was Rohit Bal’s turn to take his bow to a wildly applauding audience. Showers of white confetti began on one of the most outstanding and memorable Grand Finales ever witnessed in India, presented at Lakme Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2012.
